My name is Leah and this year will be my 9th summer at Chippewa. I am from Highland Park, IL and am currently a senior at the University of Michigan studying in political science and education. Outside of camp, I am involved with the Golden Apple committee which recognizes amazing teachers. I also am a member of a sorority where I enjoy volunteering for the National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, walking my dog, spending time with family and friends, and playing guitar. I am passionate about working with youth and helping to develop our next generation of leaders. One thing not a lot of people know about me is that I LOVE playing the guitar and my goal is to learn every song by Taylor Swift. Oh, and I don’t like cheese on my sandwich unless it is a grilled cheese.
This summer at camp, I will be teaching fishing! I like teaching this activity because it is so special to see a camper’s face light up when they catch a fish or even a piece of seaweed. I also love to take campers on boat rides and explore different areas of the lake with different fish. My favorite camp meal is chicken tenders and buff sauce, and my favorite Cathy’s flavor is Blue Moon (we are a small population but we are mighty!!!). Lip Sync is my favorite Evening Program because we get to see all of the campers amazing dance moves, and it ends in an EPIC Chippy dance party. I love being a Chippy because it made and continues to shape the person that I am and will become. Chippewa has emphasized the virtue of kindness for me and I often think about how we as a community can make the world a kinder place. I am most excited for the summer of 2021 because I cannot wait to form new connections and relationships with campers and staff members alike. I think of summers on Dam Lake each day and I am counting down the days till we are all together again!
