Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
Happy 4th of July! In honor of Independence Day, I am changing up the format tonight. I am going to write this diary entry from the point of view of a Chippewa camper. I hope you enjoy :).
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
Dear Diary,
Today was a magnificent day and there is truly nowhere I would have rather spent my 4th of July. From start to finish, things were so busy and fun- not to mention, the weather was perfect. I am exhausted now, but here is how the day went…
It all began with Lakeview waking us up by banging pots and pans. We jumped out of bed and put on all of our red, white and blue gear before heading down to the waterfront. At the waterfront, we took photos, cheered, played USA trivia and watched the Lakeview Chippybats (Jessie H, Anabelle L & Brooke R) perform. I was so impressed with how well they slalom skied- I hope that when I am in Lakeview, I will be one of the campers skiing on the 4th.
From the waterfront, we went to the Adler Lodge for breakfast. When we walked into the lodge, it was completely covered in murals and decorations. The theme was “Broadway Stars & Stripes,” and Lakeview did an amazing job with everything! The food was EVEN BETTER than normal (I didn’t know it was possible)! We had waffles, pancakes (plain & chocolate chip), French toast, donut holes, whipped cream with berries, cinnamon rolls and red, white & blue frosting…both to put on our food and to put on one another! It was all so delicious and breakfast was FUN. Everybody was singing, having a whipped cream fight and eating a lot.
Later in the morning, we played the Circle Game, which is a fun game that is played in the South Field. I ran to the center for a couple of questions and made it up first for being a new camper. Some of the questions were funny- one camper did the worm, someone crab-walked to the middle and others sang songs. Overall, I loved the Circle Game and can’t wait to play it again next year.
Lunch was another incredible meal. The Lakeview campers helped to create the menu today and they did a very good job of making it a yummy day of food…we even had dot cakes for dessert! This afternoon was the most fun I have had since I have been at camp. It was the 4th of July Carnival planned by Lakeview and there were a ton of awesome activities including a huge water slide on the South Field, a dunk tank, slip and slide, excellent music, inflatable carnival games, food that was out of this world and much more. From the carnival, we went to the BBQ before getting ready for the fireworks.
Once we were all in our Chippewa gear, we got on the buses to head to the Boulder Junction Fireworks. We got there early enough to eat some concessions and play some games before the dark set in and the show began. These were some of the best fireworks I have ever seen…they were basically as good as that one time I saw them in Disney World.
Now that we are back at camp, I am exhausted. I couldn’t have asked for a better day and am now looking forward to a good night’s sleep. I so appreciate all of the work that Lakeview put into this day. I know they gave so much effort in order to make this day special for the rest of us and they succeeded!
Love Your Happy Camper,
Chippy Girl
