Dearest Chippies,

Good evening from the Office at the Top of the Hill! It was, unsurprisingly, a wonderful day here at CRC. The sun was shining, the meals were delicious, and campers have made the most of every second since the sun came up. Some highlights of the day include Alexia C (Cactus) dropping a ski and Riley S (Lakeview) crossing the wakes on one ski, quesadillas for lunch, Maisy B’s (Lakeview) birthday, and a volleyball clinic with the one and only Tanner. Campers molded animals in Pottery, made snickerdoodles in Cooking, practiced their log rolling skills at Swimming, and so much more. I spent the mid-day hours driving Blackfoot and Silverspurs to their Crystal Lake camping trip and (again, unsurprisingly) the vibes were immaculate. The campers’ excitement was palpable as we drove the road to the campsite, and it was so wonderful to see them embrace a new experience with positivity. Upon arrival, Poppy D (Silverpsurs) found a small log and rallied a bunch of campers to play baseball (with pinecones as balls, of course). I was honored with the role of pitcher and let me tell you… those girls have skill! It was such a fun afternoon adventure, and I can’t wait to hear about what else transpired when they return to camp tomorrow!

After dinner tonight, Lakeview was awarded their Cathy’s from Alexis G’s Chippy Trivia Raffle win at the Friendship Fire last week. I also had the pleasure of joining them for this adventure and it was a total blast. We had a Tate McRae karaoke sesh followed by a delicious ice cream dessert… what could be better?! While driving them, I couldn’t help but think about how incredible to see how well their cabin has meshed as a group this summer. They are strong leaders whose love of camp shines brightly. It was such a joy to spend the evening with them!

As I write this, campers are gathering on the North Field awaiting a showing of High School Musical 2 for Screen on the Green. I can hear the giggles and feel the anticipation all the way from my desk and it’s making me smile. It’s moments like this that really scream “camp” to me… nothing special is happening, per se, yet so much special is happening. Over popcorn and soda and candy, campers and staff alike are enjoying each other’s company and breathing in the fresh Northwoods air. They’re laughing about nothing and everything all at the same time, doing nothing in an “everything matters” sort of way. It’s a welcome reminder that there is no wasted moment at camp. How lucky are we!

With those deets of the day, I bid you farewell for this evening. It was a fantastic day here on County O and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Talk to ya next week!

Sincerely,
Soph Aloaf
