Hey Chippewa family and friends!

It is sooooooooo great to be saying that! For those who don’t know me, my name is Dylan and today was my first day of camp. Crazy right? I spent ten magical years at Chippewa, and now I’m up here with a few girls in my awesome age group for the last week of camp! To say we are positively stoked is an understatement. I’m determined to enjoy every second of this week, and to make each day full of Chippewa fun. I think I nailed that today.

I started the day in Bowed Legs, my cabin, and was pleasantly surprised by my campers enthusiasm in getting out of bed for breakfast. I guess I can thank the post Stalk-The-Lantern sleep in!

After my typical camp breakfast of Greek yogurt, granola, and loads of berries, I got my schedule for today’s A-Day activities. It was perfect.

I had the pleasure of taking the camp photos during first period. While the person holding the camera is usually the paparazzi, being on photos at Chippewa makes you feel like the celebrity. I love walking around camp, checking out all the awesome activities and catching all the smiling faces while the campers yell my name for photos. My favorite part was watching Kenzie C riding my favorite horse, Fireman. She was doing an amazing job. Taking photos is a great way to start my day and get a nice walk in - the weather was perfect!

For lunch, I was so excited to walk into a lodge full of chicken tenders and fries. That’s a classic camp meal you can’t get tired of. During rest hour, my friend Lindsay A did some practice rounds driving the boat by pulling me and my friend Sam G on skis. Luckily for her, I ski like a 10 year old, so I’m nice practice for a colt-village skier.

In the afternoon I got to teach a 4th period yoga class which was super relaxing. I always feel so grateful when I’m doing yoga in the north woods. It’s pure zen. For fifth period, I was on Compass Point Hangout which kept the chill vibes going. I played a couple amazing round of Barbie themed uno with Ava L., Haddie I, Parker R, and Arielle K and Leslie B. We were really in it to win it, but still always issued out a courteous “sorry” before dropping a Draw Four.

After a delicious, and I mean delicious barbecue with lots of bbq chicken and the best pickles on the planet, it was time for the Horseshoe social. Sam G and I were the DJs for the event and it was awesome to watch everyone reunite with siblings and friends from our perch by the speaker. It was a great social with lots of laughing, dancing, and dessert.

Now, I’m off to hang out with my campers. Bonding with the Bowed Legs girls feels easy even though I just moved in yesterday, I feel like I’ve been their counselor all summer. I’m so lucky to be here with them. I know this week will be the highlight of my summer.

Thanks for reading,
Dylan Grossmann
