Dearest Chippies,

Hello from County O! Today was another action-packed, fun-filled day over here at CRC. The sun was shining bright and there was enthusiasm galore across camp. I won’t waste any time tonight… there’s a lot to say!

This morning after breakfast, the entire camp gathered around the Center Fire Circle for Kahuna Day Captain announcements. Kahuna Day is a second session favorite, and a day where spirit, teamwork and friendly competition shine through. On Kahuna Day, camp is split into four teams, each of which is led by two campers—one from the oldest cabins in Colt Village and the other from the oldest cabin in Wrangler Village. It is a very high honor to be recognized as a Kahuna Day Captain, and today, we honored eight very deserving campers. Congratulations to Colt Village Captains Leila J, Harper M, Leah N and Leah S, as well as Wrangler Village Captains Skylar C, Samantha G, Naomi R and Suzy R. It will no doubt be an incredible Kahuna Day thanks to your spirit, commitment to camp, and leadership!

And then, the day continued with regular activities!! Achievements were exceptionally plentiful over at skiing, where Naomi M got up and around on one ski AND crossed the wakes on one ski, Ava S crossed the wakes on one ski, and Sunny W dropped a ski and crossed the wakes. During 5th period, I had the great pleasure of lifeguarding the Random House class as they raced their boats on the waterfront. Naomi T, Stella M and Edie B tested their creation against Jayanna H, Poppy M and Milo O. In the end, both boats fared well—but the second group was able to get theirs from the dock to the sand in just 47 seconds!

And THEN… we rounded out the day with one of the most anticipated Tan & White games of the summer: Songfest. Songfest is a longstanding Chippewa tradition; and tonight—after a great deal of effort, creativity, teamwork, leadership and time—Tans in Tiaras and Whites in the Dreamhouse ascended Sophie’s Center Stage to perform their hearts out. In preparation for tonight’s performances, Sophie B and Katie M of the White Team and Julia E and Lucy W of the Tan Team (with the help of the rest of the CITs as well as Lakeview and Trailriders campers) poured countless hours into preparing their skits, songs, murals and medallions. Their effort was noticeable in every element of the performances—down to the wide, prideful smiles that braced the faces of participants as they loudly sang their team’s cheers. Tonight, the White team won the game of Songfest, but the leadership displayed by all four Sachems (and, frankly, the entirety of both teams) was remarkable. Thank you to all Tans and Whites, but specifically Sophie, Katie, Julia and Lucy, for your leadership and commitment to the tradition of Tan & White. Tonight’s incredible performances were a reflection of your hard work and strong leadership!

And now, campers are fast asleep, resting up for another action-packed, fun-filled day tomorrow. It’s hard to believe that today marks just two weeks until the conclusion of #TheRanch2025. There is still PLENTY of camping left, but we are officially in the “make every moment count before it’s too late” window of the summer. If the activity of today was any indication, our campers are taking this idea to heart. They didn’t let a single opportunity pass them by!

Thanks for reading—talk to ya next week!

Sincerely,
Soph Aloaf
