What Else Happened Today?!
-After a much needed sleep-in following our late night celebrating 4th yesterday, we had a quiet breakfast followed by a unique All Camp Pick-Up. About once a summer, when camp is looking a little bit rough, we implement a very special all camp pick-up in order to restore CRC to it’s beauty. The entire camp lined up on the south end of camp and we slowly made our way all the way to the north end. We picked up trash, lost & found and equipment that was out of place. This event is always a little bit silly and a little bit serious…we seriously want to treat camp with respect and keep it clean…but the way we run this All Camp Pick-Up is a little bit over the top and silly- in a fun and campy way!
-We had a wonderful day of mostly regular A Day activities! At cooking they made chocolate lava cakes, which were very delicious…shoutout to the second period cooking class for making a couple of extras for us to enjoy in the office. All along the waterfront, despite a little bit of rain, campers were excited to be in the lake. As I walked by SUP before second period, they were begging me to get out there even though there was a bit of water falling from the sky. When I was at the lake a little bit later, they were all excitedly on their boards loving life. In archery news, Ellie A, Skye N and Amelia F are all very close to becoming Gold Club members!
-As most of you likely know, we have a little bit of illness going through our community. While we never like when campers and staff aren’t feeling well, it has been very sweet to see counselors, cabinmates, family members and friends rally around those who are sick. From making get well signs, to visits from a distance through a window, to making special plates at meals, Chippewa is making those who are currently getting healthy feel loved and included. We are hoping we are on the last leg of all of this for the summer, and while it’s not ideal, it has been a good indicator of the genuine care and positive impact that Chippies of all ages have.
-Because of the wild and crazy and amazing day we had yesterday combined with the fact that we are exhausted, we called an audible and made it an in-cabin bonding night with a very early bedtime. When we announced this plan to the camp, both campers and staff were elated…we all know that a good night of sleep is in order! We can’t wait for all of the fun that awaits us tomorrow- we have a big line-up: Sunday morning breakfast, United Nations Day Sign-Ups, Egg Marathon Run Offs and Sign-Ups, Tan & White Capture the Flag and the Talent Show! It is going to be incredible, that’s for sure, and I can’t wait for you to hear all about it.
And on one last note, a difficult note at that, it has been a devastating couple of days for the greater camp community across the country, specifically in Texas. Due to the extreme flooding in Kerr County, Camp Mystic and Heart O’ the Hills have suffered unimaginable loss and are continuing to navigate this crisis. We are thinking about them and sending our positive Chippewa vibes and strength their way. While this is not something we are discussing with campers, it feels important to acknowledge in a post where I am highlighting all of the amazingness that we are experiencing…this is certainly a reminder to keep things in perspective and be grateful.
That’s all I’ve got from Chippewa today- it was hot, it was a little bit rainy, it was fun and it was impactful! Thanks for reading- talk to y’all tomorrow!
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
