Dearest Chippies,

I write to you this evening following one of the best Kahuna Day’s that CRC has ever seen. All day long, Tulane, Boulder, Penn and Illinois faced off in all sorts of games, sports and other activities. Campers and staff brought their A-game, and the competition was FIERCE. It really was a top notch day all around. Let’s dive right in!

Wait… I’m getting ahead of myself. For those of you who may not know already, Kahuna Day is a day-long competition where the entire camp is split up into four teams. Throughout the day, the teams compete in all sorts of sports and games like four square, basketball, dodgeball, lanyard making and more. It’s a day full of competition and spirit, and it never lacks in enthusiasm and FUN. Each team is led by a pair of Colt and Wrangler Village captains who are nominated by their counselors for demonstrating leadership potential and Compass characteristics. It is a big honor to be chosen for this role, and this year’s Colt Village captains—Dylan K, Ana L, Julia F and Lily R—working together with the Wrangler Village captains—Sadie S, Andie G, Leah R and Millie F—showed us that they were more than deserving of this honor. They led by example, demonstrated fantastic leadership and sportsmanship, and helped us all make the most of our day. And I can’t forget to thank Summer W, Lindsay A and Emmy F, who planned and led the day. It was flawless in execution, and your hard work created one of the smoothest and most enthusiastic Kahuna Day’s I can remember. Everyone had a blast, and that is in large part due to your hard work and planning. Thank you for all that you did to make it amazing!

As for specifics of the day… I had the pleasure of being a referee for flag football with Sari, and we agreed that it was one of the best showings of athleticism, enthusiasm and sportsmanship we have seen in a long time. Suzy R was an underrated receiver, Hope F was an amazing quarterback, and everyone else who played showed up and gave 100%. There were more amazing plays than I have personally witnessed in any one CRC flag football game, and it was so much fun to watch. The final game between Tulane and Boulder went into overtime… and Boulder edged out a win in the final play!

The day ended with a delicious BBQ dinner on the waterfront. It’s one of my favorite parts of Kahuna Day… everyone gathered together, eating and hanging and chatting about the events of the day. After dinner, it was announced that Boulder had secured a win and they got to celebrate with Cathy’s! Overall, it was an incredible day. Definitely a Kahuna Day for the books!

And there you have it. Another eventful day at #TheRanch2023. Days like today remind you of the magic of camp, and as the summer comes to an end, it was definitely bittersweet. And lucky for us, the excitement continues tomorrow with Camper Counselor Day. It is sure to be another great one!

Sincerely,
