Our February Staff Spotlight features Chelsea Martin! Chelsea is a long-time Chippy who has brought fun, silliness and spirit to the CRC community for many summers. As a staff member, Chelsea is incredibly thoughtful and always doing what she can to ensure that campers get the most out of their time at Chippewa. She leads by example, gives her all to everything, and always has a smile on her face. Thanks for everything you do for camp, Chelsea! Read below to learn a bit more about Chelsea’s camp experiences and life in the off-season.
1. How many summers have you been at camp?
This upcoming summer will be my 9th summer!
2. What cabin were you in during the summer of 2022?
I was in the cabin of Boots.
3. What is your favorite part about being a counselor at CRC?
My favorite part about being a counselor at CRC is watching my campers grow and learn at camp. My absolute favorite part of any day is when my campers come to me to say that they accomplished something from passing a level in skiing, to learning a new recipe in cooking. Seeing my campers feeling proud and accomplished puts a smile on my face like nothing else. I think back to my days as a camper and remember how happy I felt in those moments, and love knowing that they feel the same excitement as I did as a little camper.
4. What was your favorite memory from the summer of 2022?
My favorite memory from the summer of 2022 was winning second session Lip Sync! My campers put in an extreme amount of effort and hard work to create an amazing Lip Sync to the song Mamma Mia. They spent all their free time making up moves and working as a team, and I loved watching the dance come together. The excitement my campers and cos felt in that moment was such a special time for all of us to share!
5. What is your favorite camp memory of all time?
All my camp memories are my favorite, but one memory I constantly think back to was from my second summer at camp. I was in the cabin of Rafter-X, and my whole cabin came together to create something called a “stuffed animal zip line.” We attached lanyard to the bunk beds, and created a zip line which we could attack our stuffed animals to, and zip line them across the cabin. I remember in this moment, I realized my true and genuine love for camp. I knew that at home I could never do something like create a zipline with my cabin mates, and from there started to embrace all the little moments throughout my summers.
6. How do you stay in touch with your camp friends during the year?
I am lucky enough to go to school and live near most of my camp friends. We all stay in touch by having plans very often, and FaceTiming throughout the year.
7. What are you most excited about for the summer of 2023?
I am looking forward to re-connecting with all my campers and friends in the summer of 2023. I miss everyone so much, and cannot wait to spend all summer long with my favorite people ever once again!
8. What do you do when you are not at camp?
When I am not at camp, I love getting involved and spending my time helping others. I am in a school club called Warrior Buddies, which is a club that works with special needs students. I am also in a club called key club, which creates items from care packages to loving holiday cards for people in the hospital and those in need. Outside of my clubs, I love to hang out with friends and family, baking, painting, and playing with my dog.
9. Anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
That camp is the best place on earth, and I cannot wait any longer for summer 2023!
