Our October Staff Spotlight features Taylor Finley! Taylor is originally from New Zealand and is currently living in Glencoe, IL… so you may see her out and about if you are local to that area! In her 2 summers at Chippewa, Taylor has shown herself to be a hard-working and dedicated member of the CRC community. Whether she is in her cabin, at cooking, at the ropes course or anywhere in between, Taylor is looking out for those around her and and doing everything she can to make sure that their camp experience is rewarding and fun. She is a valued member of our staff team and we are lucky to have her as a part of the CRC crew! Read below to learn a bit more about Taylor’s camp experiences and life in the off-season.
1. How many summers have you been at camp?
I’ve just finished my second summer at Chippewa!
2. What cabin were you in during the summer of 2023?
I was in C-C down by the lakefront last summer.
3. What is your favorite part about being a counselor at CRC?
I love every part of it- every day getting to see how your campers are making the most of their summer and helping to shape their time at camp as much as you can. Getting to see camp through their eyes sometimes and just generally bonding with not only the campers in your own cabin but in all the other cabins during all the activities and evening programs and every single moment at camp.
4. What was your favorite memory from the summer of 2023?
The slip and slide during Fourth of July carnival was a blast, and trying to play rugby on it was the best. And the on-camp fireworks that evening! Also all of pre-camp getting to spend time with all the staff and getting to know so many new people and friends!
5. What is your favorite camp memory of all time?
Preparing for Counsellor Hunt this summer with Emily and Lauren, where we ended up digging a hole in the dark one night during an on-camp night off. Also Family Camp this summer and getting to stay in Pondy with the best summer sisters I could ask for 🫶
6. How do you stay in touch with your camp friends during the year?
By sending videos and photos or texts about memories or things that remind me of them or inside jokes from the summer that come up at home.
7. What are you most excited about for the summer of 2024?
Getting to spend the summer with all my friends from all over the world in the camp life bubble and to be back up in the north woods again!
9. What do you do when you are not at camp?
I love being outside while the weather is nice and going for coffee with friends, going to the movies every week and reading my favourite books. I also love baking whenever I can, and discovering new parts of Chicago to explore!
10. Anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
Thanks everyone for quite literally the best summer ever it was the most silly goofy fun time I’ve had - see you at Hometown xx
