Dearest Chippies,

It’s me, Soph Aloaf—back and better than ever. Let me just start out by saying that WOW am I happy to be back writing to you all. Thursdays without The Sari Diaries just don’t have the same zest… you know? I know Sari has told you many times in the past few days about how incredible this summer is so far, but I will take this chance to say it just once more. If my 18 years at Chippewa have taught me anything it is that each summer at CRC is better than the last… and the past few days have signified that 2022 will certainly be following suit. In just a few short days, new friendships have blossomed, old friendships have strengthened and lots (I mean LOTS) of activity achievements have been had. I mean—we had over 20 golds in archery in just a single day. Crazy!

Okay, okay… enough babbling. I’m sure you’re thinking, Sophie… get with it. Tell me about the day already! I hear you loud and clear. Let’s discuss the details of this amazing day.

It was a beautiful and hot day on Dam Lake. The sun was shining, and campers dove headfirst into their first day of B Day activities—some literally, some figuratively. It was a fantastic day of activities all around camp, but specifically down at waterskiing. Riley S and Samantha G both got up on two skis for 10 seconds, and Blake R helped first-time camper Cameron H put on her skis for the first time. She even got in the water with her to make sure she was comfortable and knew how to hold the rope properly. It was an incredible display of encouragement, and a great example of Chippies supporting Chippies!

Tonight was Big and Little Sister Night, which is perhaps the most anticipated evening program of the entire summer. One of my favorite parts of camp is the friendships that blossom between older and younger campers, and Big and Little Sister Night is a catalyst for such relationships. During the program, pairs of big and little sisters went around camp and participated in all kinds of different activities. They made handshakes, did a crazy obstacle course, ate (or tried to eat) donuts dangling from a string, and much more. The highest scoring pairs from each of those activities ended up on the stage in the Theater, where they tested their knowledge of their Sisters. It was clear that these girls had studied up on each other—they knew so much about one another! Congrats to the winning pair, Sydney J and Willow K! Also, shoutout to the CITs, who planned and executed this entire program. They did a fantastic job. It was organized, creative and most importantly, FUN! I have no doubt that many of the friendships forged tonight will endure through the summer, and hopefully into future years. Overall, I’d say it was a huge success!

Well… I think that’s about all for today. Sounds like an awesome day, right? I wish you could all be here to witness the amazingness of this summer so far. I don’t think my explanation could possibly do this day justice, but hopefully you got a taste of the action.

Thanks for reading. See you all back here next Thursday!

Sincerely,
Soph Aloaf
