Dear Diary,
Today was the best day of camp! I have been at camp for a total of fourteen days, and I love each day more. But today was extra special- it was the 4th of July! The oldest campers, the cabin of Lakeview, planned the entire day for us and it was amazing.
It all started this morning when the Lakeview girls came into our cabin banging on pots and pans, and yelling, “Happy 4th of July!” to wake us up. I have loved every wake-up (even though they go on for thirty minutes), but today’s was extra special. I jumped right out of bed and put on my red, white and blue attire…my first of multiple outfits for the day. The whole camp gathered at the waterfront for photos, and to watch the Lakeview ski & tube show. Avery K and Halle S were the skiers and they are sooooo good! They were each up on one ski and were weaving back and forth. And they even waved to us! We were all screaming and cheering for them…I hope they could hear us! Then Camryn F went by the CRC waterfront on a tube…it was funny and we all cheered for her as well!
After the ski show, everybody lined up outside the lodge. I know that Lakeview has been working so hard on the entire day, and I was excited to go into the lodge to learn the theme, and to see all of their murals. The rumor going around was that the theme was “Good Forth You.” I honestly don’t even know what that means but I was pretty sure it wasn’t the actual theme. When my cabin got to go into the lodge, there was music blaring, Lakeview was cheering and the excitement was real. The theme was “Chippies Rock Out on Fourth.” It was a rock and roll theme, and it rocked! The murals were so cool- there were even some with counselors’ and directors’ heads on them.
Breakfast was my favorite meal ever- strawberry blintzes, donuts, smoothies, avocado toast, pancakes with red, white & blue whipped cream and more. It was very delicious…I wish Lakeview could make the menu every day! After breakfast, I went to the South Field for Circle Game. At first I had no idea what was going on but it was so much fun. Lakeview called out different questions and if we knew the answers or could do what they were asking, we ran up to the center. I ran up for a couple of different questions including singing the alphabet backwards :).
Then it was time for lunch…another yummy meal full of some of my favorites. We had caprese salad, fried pickles, chicken nuggets and pizza bagels. There was more but that’s all that I had for the main course. At the end of the meal though, we had a real treat- Chippies Rock Out on Fourth Cookies baked by Rachel’s Cookies. They were AMAZING chocolate chip cookies with red, white & blue sprinkles! At the end of lunch, we had a dance party on the mess hall patio- there were good tunes and lots of sweet moves!
The main event today was the carnival and I loved every second of it! Not only was there more good food (yes, tomorrow I promise to eat fruits and vegetables) but the whole South Field was full of fun. There was dance music going the entire time and I got to dance with my counselors, which I loved. I also did the dunk tank with two friends- it was freezing but felt so good! The slip ’n slide was ginormous and the foam machine was so fun to play in! To top it all off, there was a blow-up obstacle course water slide!
Following a BBQ dinner (which I am told is tradition on the 4th of July), we had a FIREWORKS SHOW! We all gathered at the south end of the south field with our cabins, got concessions & glow sticks, and then sat and watched a magical fireworks display…on Chippewa grounds! The entirety of #TheRanch2021 was “oohing” and “ahhing” as the sky lit up. Now I’m in bed during flashlight time writing to all of you. I am not sure if I did today justice but I can tell you for sure that I loved every minute of it and the day was completely SO CHIPPEWA. I am so excited to one day be in Lakeview and give the camp the amazing day that LV 2021 worked so hard to give us today. As I am beginning to doze off, I just have one last thought…I am so grateful for CRC, and that I am spending my first summer here. Even though I have only been here for two weeks, I know that I have found my summer home.
Happy Camping and Love,
Your Chippy Camper
