Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

We have had a wonderful Saturday at CRC, and at this point, camp is quiet as I sit in the office writing to all of you. So let’s get right down to the nitty gritty- here is a bit about our day at #TheRanch2021…

Activities today were “bussin” as the kids are saying around camp. Apparently that means “really good”…yes, I am learning all of the lingo this summer :). Down at skiing, Jessie H crossed the wakes on two skis, Léa W got up and around the lake on two skis and Maddie K dropped a ski! When I walked over to the sailing docks, I saw one of the cutest sights I have seen in a long time. On one sailboat, Emmy F was teaching Annabelle K, Laken E and Avery J, and on a sailboat right alongside them, Lindsay A was teaching Leah S, Ava T, Skylar G and Arielle K. I can only imagine how cool those Rafter campers thought it was to be sailing with those CITs!

At lunch today, the entire camp joined together in the lodge for an amazing rendition of Tan and White cheering, and it was LOUD! As always happens at the start of a session, it is fun to see the new campers watch in wonder at the older kids cheering their heads off. It is one of those things that is hard to really understand until you are in the lodge, seeing and hearing what it’s all about. But today, the first year campers learned…and by the end, they were right there with the rest of the camp screaming (or singing?!) with their teams.

And all of that cheering was in preparation for this evening’s Tan & White game of All Camp Capture the Flag. This is the long awaited game when both campers and counselors join forces to try to capture the other team’s flag. It is played all across camp- from the south end to the north…the woods are included, and it is intense! Four different campers scored tonight, which ended the game in a tie! Congratulations to Ava G, Halle S, Annie M and Dani G…all with very impressive runs with the flag across the center line. I had the chance, while reffing from the North Field, to see Dani G bolt in front of the lakefront cabins, and then behind Bowed Legs all the way past the center of camp. It was one of the most impressive moments I have witnessed in all of my years of Capture the Flag at CRC. I would also like to congratulate both teams on finding an amazing balance between intensity, competition and sportsmanship. And the best quote of the night came from Maddie Z who said, “Everybody at this camp is so good!” And I completely agree with her- everybody here is SO CHIPPEWA!

And now I am sitting in the office with Lily Z, Jordyn V and Dani G. We are debriefing this evening’s game and they are giving lots of credit to some underrated Capture the Flag players. They are giving special shout-outs to Charlie S and Hailey C who are all apparently amazing flag pullers. And also to Danielle K and Alexis F who impressed us all on offense despite not scoring.

While there were plenty of other amazing things that happened today, those were the highlights around here. Tomorrow is our in camp Town Day, and we are very excited! That’s all I’ve got for now, goodnight, friends :).

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
