Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
What a day it has been! Today at #TheRanch2021, we had a chance to see the true colors of our second session campers. And in case you were worried, they are awesome…the easiest way to put it is this- they are SO CHIPPEWA! They jumped right into camp life and are as spirited and fun and we hoped they would be! Today was full of activity and also some good food, and last but not least, an amazing evening program. Here’s how it all went down…
We had our very first second session morning wake-up- “Nina, Pretty Ballerina” was playing all over camp, and people were happy. In my opinion, that is one of the most morning wake-up-y songs to ever exist! We then had a birthday quiz- there were a lot of people lined up to wish Lindsay A a very happy 16th birthday! And then, we had the first Seven Wonders Quiz of the session, which was very well attended. So much so that Esmy M had to finish her turn after dinner! There’s lots of chatter going on about the excitement of future Seven Wonders Quizzes.
Throughout the day, eight week campers participated in a variety of activities including water skiing, sailing, SUP, kayaking, fishing and newcomb. Yes, it was a beautiful day so being on the waterfront was much appreciated! While this was happening, four weekers went around to lots of different activities- they took their swim tests, learned about trampball, horseback riding, archery, climbing and more. And all the while, I know many of them were planning their schedule in preparation for tomorrow’s sign-ups. Campers were excitedly coming to the office to let us know about the fun that they were having and lots of cheering could be heard all across camp!
And then, after a delicious chicken dinner, we had our very first Tan & White game of the session- Sandstorm! Campers were decked in their red and white shirts, and singing their songs loudly at the Center Fire Circle. The energy was intense and the excitement was through the roof! Sandstorm is a unique Chippewa-created game where each team is trying to get a pile of sand from the south end of camp to the north. There are a number of different methods by which they do this and there are a couple of challenges along the way. By the time the Sachems from each team were running sand from their trash can to the weighted buckets, it was fairly dark and the entirety of both teams were surrounding them, and cheering in support. And then something happened that has never happened before- there was a slight gltich in the system. We had to call the game at that point, and the Whites were slightly ahead…so while it was a unique kind of victory, the White Team won Sandstorm 2021!
So yes, today was another outstanding day at CRC! We seem to have a lot of those around here- I suppose it’s not too challenging when you have 300 or so happy campers & counselors running around. Happiness breeds happiness, and that’s what’s going on here right now! Okay, thanks for reading- check back tomorrow and have a good one!
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
