Dearest Chippies,

Happy Wednesday from CRC! I know you were expecting a podcast this evening, but Sari and I did a little switcheroo because I just couldn’t possibly wait another day to write to all of you. I’m sure none of you will find it surprising that it was another fantastic day at #TheRanch2021. We enjoyed a cooler day than normal, but there was no shortage of enthusiasm or enjoyment around camp. Marble cupcakes were baked in Cooking, 1st period Wall faced off against 1st period Ropes in an intense soccer match, and several campers took the opportunity for extra turns at skiing. Amari S even crossed the wakes on two skis! Overall, campers and staff made the most out of the day… as they always seem to do!

One of the highlights of the day was after lunch, when we announced UN Day captains. Being a UN Day captain is one of the highest honors a camper can receive here at CRC. This leadership position is awarded to four campers in the oldest Colt Village cabins and four in the oldest Wrangler Village cabin—each of whom have displayed characteristics of the Compass and have demonstrated the ability to foster sportsmanship, confidence, fun and teamwork amongst their respective teams. A huge congratulations to Colt Village captains Emmy B, Noa G, Rosie H and Summer K, as well as Wrangler Village captains Zoey B, Charlie K, Reese S and Izzy S. Each of you has earned this opportunity, and I have extreme confidence that you will help us create one of the best UN Day competitions to date!

We ended the day with the most highly anticipated Tan & White game of the summer (after Realm, of course)… Capture the Flag! Both Tans and Whites brought their A-game, and a fierce competition ensued. It was back and forth scoring—first Ava G for the Tans and Sam S for the Whites, then Mackenzie P for the Tans and Eden S for the Whites. Ari H ended up breaking the tie in the final minute of the game and scoring the winning point for the Tan team!

The game as a whole was an incredible display of athleticism, but I must also mention the equally-incredible display of sportsmanship and teamwork. There were many moments worthy of a Sari Diaries shout-out, but one of my favorites was between Sadie G and Blair S. Blair was standing close to the box and Sadie was telling her friends she was nervous she would get trampled. So she walked up to Blair and coaxed her back a bit further, telling her, “There’s a certain spot back here that we need people in, and you’re an amazing flag puller.” Blair took up this new post with a newfound purpose, chasing every flag that passed her and repeatedly looking back to Sadie for affirmation… and Sadie gave it to her every time. While this game is about scoring for so many Tans and Whites, this moment reminded me that it can also be about so much more.

Overall, it was a good day in a string of good days. We are all going to bed happy and fulfilled, ready for another good day tomorrow! Be sure to tune in to tomorrow’s podcast to hear all the details of the day.

Talk to ya next week!

Sincerely, Soph Aloaf
