Our November Staff Spotlight features Melissa Spero. Melissa is a dedicated staff member who is loved by campers and counselors alike. Her love of sailing, her campers, and pretty much everything else about camp does not go unnoticed. She is an important part of our Administrative Team and an even more integral part of the Chippewa community. We are incredibly lucky to have Melissa as a part of our Chippy family. Thanks for all you do for camp, Melissa! Read below to learn all about Melissa’s life at camp as well as in the off-season.
1. How many summers have you been at camp?
11!
2. What cabin were you in during the summer of 2019?
I was in Horseshoe.
3. What is your favorite part about being a counselor at CRC?
My favorite part about being a counselor at CRC is getting to watch my campers grow over the summers and getting to be their biggest cheerleader! I also love how being a counselor allows you to form friendships with campers and staff of all ages.
4. What was your favorite memory from the summer of 2019?
One of my favorite memories of the summer of 2019 was getting to spend a second year in Horseshoe with my campers and co-counselors. Another favorite memory was having a cabin pet.
5. What is your favorite camp memory of all time?
It’s hard to pick a favorite memory of all time, but one of my favorite memories is when my friend Sophie carried me on her back all over camp because I ran out of the cabin without shoes on right after it had been raining. We were running after our counselor to go on an adventure with her. Sophie was taking a break from carrying me on her back and tried to bend over while balancing me on her back. As she was bending over I fell over her head and onto the ground. We still laugh about it to this day!
6. How do you stay in touch with your camp friends during the year?
I FaceTime and text my friends pretty much everyday. We also Snapchat all the time.
7. How did you stay connected to CRC during the summer of 2020?
During the summer of 2020 I was a staff member for the Cabin Rental program at camp! I also participated in Zoom Campfires, Zooms with my friends, Chippy trivia and Chippy lives on Instagram!
8. What do you do when you are not at camp?
I go to the University of Wisconsin and spend lots of time hanging out, going on walks, baking and watching TV with my friends.
9. Anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
The Chippewa community is so special and I’m so lucky to be apart of it!!
