The Sari Diaries- Monday 6/24/19

Sunday, June 23 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

We just finished our first Monday Night Staff Meeting of the summer so it is a bit late…I have some exciting details to share but this entry will likely be a bit brief…so I apologize to those of you who enjoy my long-winded posts.

Today consisted of five incredible activity periods during which Emma S, Millie F and Hayden R all passed levels in skiing. Out at archery, Taylor G hit 31 golds…that’s in a one hour period…pretty crazy! This afternoon, swimming was optional but Danielle K, Dani G, Camryn, F, Maddy S and Emma G excitedly jumped in the water to play on the splash mat. While it wasn’t a perfect day weather-wise, these girls seized the moment and loved their time in the lake together!

The CRC Trip program kicked off today as we had two trips head out this morning. Trailriders is currently in Mackinac- a trip that campers look forward to their entire camp careers. The girls left excited to tandem bike around the island, eat some delicious food and even see a movie. Thus far, they are having a blast and we are looking forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return! In addition, fourteen campers from Horseshoe Range and Timber Walk had an awesome canoe trip. Because of the on and off weather we experienced today, they ended up making it a day trip. While they were tired from all of that paddling, they had an amazing time and came back to camp eager to tell us about their experience.

Tonight’s evening program was Pirate Night- always a CRC favorite. We had eight staff members dressed up as pirates running around camp trying to prevent cabins from collecting flags and finding the buried treasure. Meanwhile, campers and counselors dressed up and worked together to evade the pirates and be the first to find the buried treasure, while also scavenging for flags. Despite the light rain, the energy throughout the entire game was extremely high and everyone loved it. Lucky-X found the buried treasure but in the end, Cactus actually had the most points due to the insane number of flags they collected. We ended the night with a Chippy Dance Party in the theater…pretty much the best way to conclude any night!

And then, as I mentioned, we had a staff meeting. Monday nights are a wonderful time to reflect on the past week and to set some goals for the coming week. This group of staff is incredible- the thought and effort that they are putting into ensuring a successful camp experience for the campers at #TheRanch2019 is heart warming. Conversations between co-counselors, comments to the entire staff and thoughtful questions asked tonight are all indications of how much care and love is being given to all campers at Chippewa this summer.

Okay, I think that’s about does it for today. We are looking forward to all of the wonderfulness that tomorrow will inevitably bring- and I cannot wait to share it with you in podcast form…with a small crew of campers (specific campers still TBD). Thanks for reading tonight- have a good one!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
