The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 7/18/18

Tuesday, July 17 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

I am currently writing to you while sitting at my desk reflecting on another spectacular day on Dam Lake. It flew by, which is starting to become a theme, but tomorrow I am going to work on slowing down each minute that we have here. In terms of what happened today, it was what most people would consider typical, but some of the details of the day made it pretty special! Here are the highlights…

At cooking today, they made strawberry wontons. The smell of the cooking academy was incredible and I was excited to see the campers in action. I typically end up in that building at the beginning or end of the period. Today though, I stopped by just in time to see some chopping, some mixing and some measuring. Campers were engaged and eager to taste their creations!

Over at tennis, I had the chance to see Faye Berger using her free period to participate with her campers. The tennis class was filled with mostly campers from Bowed Legs and a couple from Trailriders and one from Circle C. I jumped in and played “Jail” with this crew, and it was a ton of fun. I was impressed with their skills and also how they cheered each other on. The best part was watching the older girls interact with Olivia S from Circle C. She was right in there with them and having fun hitting with the veteran campers :).

Timberwalk and Horseshoe returned from their trip during lunch and everyone was happy to see them. Sadie G told us that the Porkies trip was the best of her camp career. Chandler S was explaining the trip to me and said, “We got to swim in Lake Superior, skip rocks and watch the most beautiful sunset!” I loved hearing the reports and am thrilled that they had such a positive experience.

For tonight’s evening program, we did something a little bit different. For all campers ages twelve and under, it was Pirate Night. They enjoyed dressing up with their cabins, running from pirates and searching for the buried treasure. Lucky-X ended the night with the most points and they are very excited for their tubing party! While they were busy enjoying Pirate Night, the cabins of C-C, Bowed Legs and Trailriders headed to Minocqua to see the Minocqua Bats ski show. They loved it and were mesmerized by the incredible skill that these skiers demonstrated. The ski show is always fun and it is also good for our Chippy skiers to see what their future might hold!

That’s all folks from me here at #theRanch2018 for today. I hope you enjoy Sophie’s post tomorrow- it will be good…as always :). Thanks for reading tonight…talk to you all on Friday!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
