Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
Yikes! Where has the time gone- I honestly cannot believe that I am writing to you on the last Wednesday of first session. I truly do not understand it…I know they say that time flies when you are having fun but time seems to be traveling at a completely ridiculous speed this summer. Today was once again full of fun and excitement- we had a typical morning followed by a crazy afternoon and evening. Here are the details…
After a great morning of activities, the Tan & White cheering at lunch was extra spirited. The songs went on for quite a while and then when the Neutrals announced Egg Marathon, the volume in the building sky-rocketed. Everyone was going crazy…in a good way…and I am not totally sure how at the end of it all, everyone still had their voices. It was fun to watch as campers and staff yelled with such pride for their team…the energy was just right for the biggest Tan and White game of the session!
As for Egg Marathon itself, the race was awesome. For those of you who don’t know, Egg Marathon is an hours long relay race with over 30 different activities. Some campers are running from one activity to another and others are doing the activities. The key is that anybody running or participating must wear a drawstring backpack which holds an egg inside a tennis canister. The egg gets checked every five or so activities and if it is broken, the Egg Heads must run the backpack to the office to get a new egg. It is such a cool program as each individual on each team plays a role in the outcome. Campers are cheering each other on and hanging out at the activities that they want to watch. At the end of the race, the Grand and Chief Sachems of each team build a fire that burns a rope and drops the egg. The teams were pretty close throughout the race with the Tans slightly ahead. In the end, while the White team sachems definitely made a comeback with their fire building skills, the Tans finished first.
As if the day couldn’t get any more exciting, after Egg Marathon, we had an all camp Cathy’s! Campers have been hoping for this since day one at #TheRanch2018 and their dreams finally came true. We shuttled cabins to our favorite ice cream shop and campers returned to camp very excited about their Cathy’s experience.
After dinner we had Pirate Night! Cabins dressed in matching colors and they searched for flags around camp while also following a scavenger hunt to the buried treasure. This is always a fun program and tonight was no exception- the giggles, excited yells and cheering that could be heard across camp indicated that cabins were into the night and having a blast! One of the cutest parts of the night was when Noa F and Emma S joined in with Blackfoot to help them in their mission to be victorious this evening. And it worked…once all of the flags, treasures and clues were counted up, it was announced that Blackfoot and Bowed Legs were the big winners!
That’s about all from our day…I am extremely sad to say that this is my final first session TSD before Visiting Weekend officially begins on Friday. Soph-Aloaf will be back tomorrow night to tell you about our day. See you all soon, and thanks for reading!
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
