The Sari Diaries- Tuesday 7/31/18

Monday, July 30 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

We had an amazing day at CRC filled with action from wake-up until bedtime. While the highlight was definitely the evening program, there was plenty of goodness in the daytime. And now I will take some time to share all of that with you!

This morning, all three of our camping trips returned with wonderful stories. Olivia S, who was on the Jag Lake trip, was very detailed in her explanation of just how beautiful their campsite was. While our trip season has not yet ended, thus far, the trip program at #TheRanch2018 has been one for the record books. Campers and staff alike have loved their experiences, and have truly taken away from this program what we always hope- they have taken away stronger connections with friends, an increased sense of pride for their camp experience and some new skills! A huge thank you to Lysney Cole, Turner Valle and James Stapleton for making all of this happen!

Throughout the day, campers were thriving at their activities. At cooking, they were making incredible cinnamon sugar cookies and at arts & crafts, they were making bird houses. While on a tour, I had a couple of awesome interactions at the stables. For starters, Jaliyah A got on a horse for the first time! While she was a bit tentative and nervous, she got off the horse incredibly proud of herself and committed to trying it again. At the end of the period, Ava L let me know that she has progressed to learning how to jump…that is her plan for her next lesson…pretty cool!

And then tonight, the Time Travel Tans and Fairy Tale Whites outdid themselves at Songfest 2018! For the past week and a half, both the Tans and Whites have worked hard to learn their new songs, slogans and cheers in preparation for tonight. As I mentioned last night, I have been so impressed with the Grand and Chief Sachems of each team as they made it a priority to remember the fun that is supposed to be Songfest. They kept it all in perspective and led their teams to an impressive night. While I genuinely wish that both teams could have won, the Fairy Tale Whites came out on top and their song (to the tune of “Shut Up And Dance With Me”) will be sung forever more in the Adler Lodge. A big congratulations to both teams- they have a lot to be proud of!

Okay, that’s all for now…I apologize for the brevity of this entry but I’ll be back tomorrow with more detail :). Thanks for reading!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
