The Sari Diaries- Sunday 7/29/18

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

“Live like it’s week seven” is a saying around here that we are constantly using throughout the summer. It is a way to remind people even during week one that there will come a time when it will feel like our days at CRC are numbered. Typically, right at the start of week seven, we all begin to get a pit in our stomachs as we realize that we have only ten days left at our summer home. And at that point, we all remember to make each and every moment count. We stop taking for granted the meals with our cabinmates or hanging on the hammocks with our friends. We appreciate the little things as we realize that come December, or even September, we would give anything for just one more day at #TheRanch2018. What is hard for me to believe is that we are already there…tomorrow marks the start of week seven…that dreaded week when it feels like there just isn’t enough time left. The good news in all of this though is that both campers and counselors are in the right frame of mind…they are digging into their summer experience and helping one another take advantage of this amazing life we are living.

As for today, we put an exclamation point on the awesomeness that was week six. Obviously our Sunday morning breakfast was fabulous…we had more orders than ever before and the customers seemed pretty happy :). For the remainder of the morning, we signed up for our last set of activities and bonded with our cabins. There were many spas in the South Field…Silverspurs, Lucky-X, Circle C and Rafter^X all had specialty services that they were offering. Campers from those cabins came to the top of the hill to make announcements that advertised the benefits of their spas. Many staff members along with the Lakeview campers headed to the South Field to get manicures, tattoos and their fortunes read (yes, Chippewa spas include tattoos and fortune telling). Meanwhile, the cabin of Bowed Legs continued their March Madness Card Tournament with Sarah D at the helm organizing the fun. The campers in Horseshoe got very into their cabin color wars…pink vs purple…I got to see them playing steal the bacon and they had a whole morning agenda of good stuff! Other cabins had ping pong tournaments, made bracelets and participated in silly scavenger hunts.

After lunch we had a great Songfest practice in preparation for Tuesday’s big performance. While I don’t know the themes (it’s a secret until Tuesday night), I do know that both teams are working incredibly hard, and are excited to show-off their songs, slogans and cheers! I would like to give a shout-out to this year’s Chief and Grand Sachems for leading fun yet productive practices. While Songfest is a huge game, they have done a really nice job of keeping it all in perspective and enjoying the process. So kudos to Ellie W, Sarah D, Sydney F and Rebecca R!

And tonight’s evening program was Tan & White All Camp Capture the Flag. Staff were excited to participate in the game and campers were happy to be scheming with their counselors for how to capture the other team’s flag. The hype was significant for this game and it was cute to see the engagement from the youngest campers to the oldest staff members. Both Lexi G and Noa F scored for their teams (White and Tan respectively), and the game ended in a tie due to the outstanding defensive efforts by both teams. Sportsmanship was at its peak and spirit was definitely not lacking! Congrats to the Tans and Whites on another wonderful competition.
