Dearest Chippies,
WOW. I can’t believe it has been a whole year since I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my Thursday evenings with you. But here we are back again at our favorite place, on our favorite night of the week, during what is undoubtedly all of our favorite time of the year… For those of you newbies, my name is Soph Aloaf and this is my 15th (!!!!!) summer at CRC. I can usually be found around camp with the youngins and I live for the slip-and-slide on the 4th of July. In more pertinent news, I hijack the Sari Diaries on Thursday’s (sorry in advance for my tangents). Some of you will grow to love this night, others of you will loathe it because Sari’s posts are farrrrr more informative than mine. But either way, I will do my best to keep you entertained and provide (some) info on the haps of the day.
As for today, it was all-around amazing. Between the perfect weather, enthusiasm for activities and anticipation for one of the most fun evening programs, the air was even happier than usual (if that’s even possible). I got to spend part of 2nd period out on the ski docks with some first-time skiers. Excitement was literally exuding from their pores and it was so fun to partake in their first skiing experiences. In other news, the most impressive accomplishment OTD IMO was the 25 golds Coco C got in a single archery period. That’s at least 23 more golds than I’ve had in my entire camp career thus far, so now I know who I’m going to seek out if I want to become a member of the Gold Club. Way to go, Coco!
The excitement of the day thankfully continued into tonight, which was Big and Little Sister Night. This is one of my favorite programs for a lot of reasons, but mostly because of the connections between campers who would probably not otherwise even talk to each other. It is always so fun to see campers young and old, new and returning creating friendships that will last longer and run much deeper than the Cathy’s earned if they win. This summer was certainly no exception, and after sharing many moments with each other over the past few days, big and little sisters swarmed the Center Fire Circle in onesies and costumes and tutus to play games with their sibs. As a participant myself (thanks for being my little sis, Viv!), I can attest firsthand to how fun this night was. The CITs did an incredible job planning and overseeing the program. Congratulations to the winners, Shira K and Julia E, on your well-deserved victory!
So there you have it, friends. Another awesome day at #TheRanch2018. As far as summers go, this is definitely shaping up to be a good one. Coming into this year, one of my goals was to participate with full force. To go all-in on everything I do and appreciate each experience and opportunity for all it has to offer. I know it’s only day 3 so this may be a bit of a premature proclamation, but so far it seems like everyone at camp is in the same headspace. Today, at least, was an all-in kind of day… and I’m looking forward to many more that follow suit in the weeks to come.
Thanks for reading and see you next week!
Sincerely,
Soph Aloaf
