Lauren Katz Burrows is featured in the November Alumni Spotlight! Lauren (Katz as she was known at CRC) is originally from Cleveland and was a part of a wonderful Ohio contingency back when she was at camp. She served as a Tan and White Neutral (shout out to the Katz-Sosna duo), was a big part of the original Chippewa website and was a fantastic camper and counselor. Since her last summer at camp, she has maintained a strong connection with Chippyland and her camp friends. Read all about Katz and her Chippewa experience below!

What years were you at CRC?
1995-2005

Which summer was your favorite and why?
My first summer (I called my parents after two weeks and asked to stay for all eight) and Trailriders (isn’t that everyone’s?). My first summer everything was new and exciting and in Trailriders it was fun to all be together for the first time plus Mackinac is so much fun!

What is your favorite camp memory?
Cabin time is what I remember most! I also like to remind people I was the captain of a winning UN Day team!

What was your favorite activity at camp?
Tan & White!

Were you a Tan or a White?
White!!

How do you keep in touch with your camp friends?
I live in Chicago with a lot of the girls but also text and visit on work trips when I can.

Where do you live now?
Chicago

What do you do?
I’m in Finance—equity sales and trading. My first boss was friends with the Hirschs and knew all about Chippewa which helped :)!

What do you miss most about camp?
My friends and being away from everything for eight weeks but I’m so glad I can relive it through my current Chippy niece (Jordyn Katz) and my two future Chippy daughters!!

Is there anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
I think we all realize how much we love Chippewa when we’re there but I now understand the impact it has on you as a person and what it teaches you. Most recently I was at my daughter’s school and I was trying to help the teachers keep the kids occupied so we sat in a circle and played Crocodile Omar. The teachers looked and me and I smiled and said, “I was a camp counselor for a while.”:) Thank you Cliff, Lisa & Sari for keeping all these traditions alive and passing them down to current and future campers. I can’t wait for my girls to experience it for themselves!!
