The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 7/5/17

Tuesday, July 04 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It was another beautiful day in the Northwoods and we had a lot of fun at #TheRanch2017! From morning until night, we were busy with all good things. Here are the details from our day…

This morning during swimming, Bryna C and Leah C were very excited to learn all about our White Cap program. The White Caps are the highest level in swimming and it is a pretty elite Chippewa group :). These Blackfoot campers were very interested in exactly what they had to do in order to achieve this significant goal of theirs!

After lunch, as I was walking to the office, I witnessed my favorite site of the day…James was sitting on the benches in the circle drive with Eden G, Chandler S and Julia H. As I approached, I did a bit of eavesdropping…they were discussing the brand of pacifier that Rudy (James and Loren’s daughter) uses. I stopped over to say hi and they told me that they were telling James a ghost story about the cabin of A-Frame. It really just brightened my day to see this unpredictable foursome hanging out!

Today was Lakeview’s day-off. In honor of all of the hard work that they put into making 4th of July the success that it was, they had a day to relax and hang-out with each other outside of camp (with their counselors, of course). I picked them up from their movie this afternoon and got to bring them to dinner at Spang’s. They were loving the day and could not have been more appreciative towards camp for helping to make it happen. Such a kind and good-natured crew!

And tonight was Pirate Night! It is a camper favorite…one of the only programs that we run both first and second session. The male staff dressed up as pirates and were running around camp trying to grab the flags of campers who were not protected by their counselors. Meanwhile, cabins were dressed up by colors and were searching for pirate flags as well as the buried treasure. There was pirate music playing all around camp…definitely an important component of the night’s success! Different cabins had different strategies…some looked for flags almost exclusively and others followed the scavenger hunt to find the treasure. It was a great night for everyone, but especially for Blackfoot…they were the big winners with the most points at the end of the night. The evening concluded with the pirates jumping in the lake as the entire camp cheered them on.

And now I am hanging in the office with Samantha C, Hannah C and Sammie T. They are discussing plans they made for their campers to bond as an age group- it sounds like it will be awesome. Okay, I think that’s all for now. I appreciate you reading and hope you are looking forward to tomorrow as much as I am. Yes, I know…I am the one who has the privilege of waking up at 8258 County O…I am the lucky one! Don’t worry though- I will keep you in the loop on all of our excitement :).

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
