Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
It was another incredible day around here and I am writing to you pretty tired after leaving the first dance party of the summer! The day was filled with fun- from regular activities to birthdays to the staff show to revealing the new lights in the theater- it was fantastic! Read below to learn about all of the excitement…
During morning announcements, tons of campers ran to Tom’s Office to wish Emery S, Carly M and Ava S a happy birthday! It was an excellent way to start the day for the entire camp but especially for the birthday girls! At 10am we began our first day of regular activities. I was lucky enough to walk around to each and every activity within the first hour. It was fun to watch Julia H and Campbell S be the first campers up the wall this summer, and to see Lakeview campers, Rebecca R and Ellie W explaining the parts of a sailboat to the new sailors. Throughout the day, we had campers in and out of the office excitedly telling us about their days. One of the best parts of my day was at the ropes course when Molly R and Ava M were waiting for their turn, and they found a worm. To begin with, they were a bit skeptical of the worm and maybe even a little bit afraid. Soon though, they were playing with the worm and let it wiggle in their hands. It was so cute, and awesome to see these girls becoming one with nature :).
After dinner, we had our Opening Staff Show in the Little Theater. Staff members performed on stage- dancing, singing and playing the guitar. All of the numbers were great- the staff really put a lot of effort into making this a special night for the campers. Just in case you were worried, we did dance to “She’s in Love With the Boy.” This has been a tradition since 1999, and is definitely going strong! Cliff played and sang “Right Field” while the entire camp sang along with their arms around each other. Additional highlights included the male staff’s rendition of “So Long, Farewell,” Lakeview 2010 doing their famous “Dynamite” dance and the new staff dancing to “Hannah Montana.” Overall, the show consisted of some great talent, some okay talent and some lack of talent (myself included). Regardless, the campers had a blast watching and the staff enjoyed providing the entertainment!
And then it happened…the house lights went out, the strobe and colored lights went on and the music played loud. The entire crew at #TheRanch2017 began cheering, screaming and dancing. Campers flooded the stage, some stood on their benches and others danced in the aisles. The energy was outrageous- definitely a good indicator of what is to come throughout the rest of the summer.
It is safe to say that after a full day of activities, an amazing evening program and a crazy dance party, everyone was ready for bed at the end of the night. I think that’s all for now but I hope you all had a great day as well…thanks for reading!
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
