Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
We had a great day at #TheRanch2016- it was really something to talk about. So that’s what I will do :). This morning we had some cabin time, in the afternoon was Jenny Day and then we played Capture the Flag this evening. Here are the details…
After a wonderful breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes, we had a super-cabin-cleanup and we needed it! Then we did something kind of crazy…last night, because of the campfire, the Cathy’s (for the Bears) and canteen (for everyone else) was delayed. So at about 11am, the entire camp got a morning dessert! Campers and staff alike were excited for the treat at this unique time of day. We then proceeded to have some cabin time. Wagon Ridge had an intense scavenger hunt- they were in groups of three or four determined to find all of the items before the other groups. While they were hunting for random things around camp, C-C had a Spit tournament…the card game, of course! Fradin made a bracket and the campers loved the card competition. All over camp, cabins were hanging out, bonding and enjoying each other’s company.
After a grilled cheese lunch, we headed to the front lawn for the start of Jenny Day. Jenny Day is always a really special day that campers and staff of all ages look forward to. Jenny was an incredible camper and staff member who truly embodied all that we hope our campers will become. She appreciated camp to the fullest extent, was kind and a genuine person. Each summer, we honor her by having a fun day centered around cabin activities. Jenny formed amazingly strong friendships during her time at camp and we hope that Jenny Day helps strengthen connections already being made each day at CRC. Aynsley, Fronc and Jorie represented Lakeview 2006 and joined us in honoring Jenny today!
Throughout the afternoon, age groups tubed, made s’moreos, played volleyball in the lake, made friendship bracelets and wrote letters to themselves to read when they are in Lakeview. The focus was just on being together and appreciating each other. It was a successful day for sure and one that campers enjoyed to the fullest extent!
After the BBQ we had Tan & White Capture the Flag! As a camper and counselor, this was my personal favorite…it is just the best. There were a crazy number of people who scored in this evening’s game…Ruby W, Alexa R, Samantha Schwartz and Dylan S all grabbed the flag and ran it across the center line. It takes a great deal of endurance and determination to make it not only into the box but then to carry the flag all the way to the other side of camp. It was a big night for the White team as they took home the “W.”
And that’s about all for today in Chippyland. It was a good one and we are all feeling very positive about life at CRC…though we are also feeling a little bit sad as the end is nearing. That pit in my stomach is sneaking up on me and I know I’m not the only one. But don’t worry- there’s still plenty of camping left! Thanks for reading- have a good night.
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
