Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
Today is Monday and time is going way too fast right now. We were uber-busy today and as the moments passed, I must say that I felt more and more emotional about the coming days that will ultimately lead to Thursday. But for now, here is all of the bliss that was experienced at #TheRanch2016 today…
This morning, our White Caps had their lake swim. They swam to and from Watermelon Island surrounded by lifeguards. This is quite an accomplishment and something they have been training for all summer long. The girls were proud to have completed this and we were very impressed with their endurance and determination!
After a tearful goodbye with campers and staff who left this morning, we had Pony Express sign-ups. Campers were excited to find out what their role will be in the final Tan & White game of the summer. Each person has an important part in the all-camp relay and the sachems strategize to create the best line-up possible! Because of sign-ups, we delayed morning activities for a half hour…by 10:30am though, everyone was at their activities and rocking it out!
Today was the Chippewa regatta and our sailing team was joined by both Interlaken and Timberlane sailors. The girls had a great time racing around Dam Lake. It was a picture perfect day for the regatta and as music played on the waterfront, everyone at CRC was enjoying being a part of this event! Sophie F and Maya H won and Lauren G won the Cutest Cockpit award with her partner. Our sailing staff planned a great day for all involved…it was a blast!
At rest hour we had Chippewa Rodeo. This is a longstanding tradition where our most advanced riders put on a riding show for the entire camp. It was a really great performance which demonstrated the talent of the Senior Saddle Club. Sally M, Grace F, Maddie K and Natalie K have some intense riding skills that we all were happy to witness. Each summer, I love heading to the stables for this event…it is the one time we are all out there together and there is just something special about it!
This evening was the Final Staff Show. We began by singing “Good Evening Folks” and every age group performed songs and dances. The second year JCs learned the “I Want You Back” dance from when I was in Trailriders (1997). I was excited to teach it to them and am hoping that the dance will live on forever in Chippyland. Rhi and the second year SCs sang “Good Riddance” and the whole camp sang along. Cliff did “Right Field,” which we all look forward to at the beginning and end of each summer. We then sang, “Today is…” which got pretty emotional. We ended the program in the theater by singing “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Jet Plane” and “Friends.” If people weren’t feeling it before then, the sadness definitely set in as the entire camp sang arm in arm.
We then shifted gears to Tan & White Stalk the Lantern. Campers were super-excited to get decked in all black and do their best to get to the center of the staff bulls-eye in the South Field. It was a good time and the Whites came out on top!
I think that’s about all for now…there is, of course, plenty of camping left…we will enjoy the next couple of days to the absolute fullest! Thanks for reading this evening :).
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
