Dearest Chippies,

Hello, and happy Thursday to you all. I write to you this evening with updates from what may very well turn out to be the best day of #TheRanch2016. And yes—I am fully aware of the fact that I am a broken record. But this place is just too amazing not to toot its horn like… at least once a week or so.

I’ll take the fact that you’re still reading as a sign that you agree.

Here at CRC we seem to have been hit with a heat wave… And even as I sit here drenched in sweat, frizzy hair and all, I maintain the belief that it may be the best thing to ever happen to us out here on County O. As temperatures continue to rise, so does enthusiasm, excitement, and happiness. Staff and campers alike can’t stop talking about how amazing this day has been. And I agree—it was literally one fun thing after the next. After a morning of regular activities, we had a 10 Year celebration for Ruth. As is true for any 10 Year ceremony, it was nice to be reminded of all the ways Ruth has impacted the camp community as well as those that call this place their home. But the real excitement began after the ceremony, when Ruth went rogue and out of nowhere announced an ALL CAMP CATHY’S! Apparently during the ceremony she decided that today was the perfect day for ice cream. And since it was her 10 Year, none of us had the heart to disagree…

You know what else it was the perfect day for? An open waterfront.

You know what else we did this afternoon? If you guessed open waterfront, you are correct.

Campers spent the afternoon in the lake, enjoying (momentary) relief from the sweltering heat. The blob, tubes, and splash pads were in full effect and smiles grew bigger with every passing minute. It was a scene of pure, uninhibited joy—exactly what camp is all about.

Tonight we had a social with Kawaga and the fun continued. Lakeview dressed in Tan and White clothes and reenacted Colorama while younger campers jumped on the trampolines and drenched their friends in the dunk tanks. As far as socials go, it was definitely a fun one.

To quote Sari—who did go ahead and steal my thunder last night when she quoted me saying what I am about to say again—this past week has truly made me fall in love with camp all over again. Some people will tell you that your worst day at camp is still better than your best day at home (I happen to be one of those people)… But your best day at camp? There isn’t even an adjective for that.

Thanks for reading. See you all next week :)

Sincerely,
Soph-Aloaf
