Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,
I apologize that I was unable to post The Sari Diaries last night. Today’s edition is a double feature…first I will write about yesterday and then about today’s fun!
YESTERDAY
What a day we had here at CRC! Campers and counselors alike were shining and thriving throughout the entire day at activities, meals and evening program. Overall, it was a day to be proud of the amazing people we have here at #TheRanch2016. Here are the highlights…
It all began with the sun shining down on us to begin morning activities. On Saturdays, we have free swim at swimming and it was an adorable site to see. Campers rotated between the blob, splashmat, tubes, yellow raft and log rolling. When I walked down there, I think there was a genuine smile on everyone’s face…not one of those smiles they just put on for a picture…a legit smile indicating their complete enjoyment of their time on the lake.
I also had the chance to walk into the theater to check out the 5th graders dance class. Sami had them show me what they had learned so far and to say that I was impressed would be an extreme understatement. They were telling me that they had only had two practices but it looked to me like they were basically ready for the Dance Show during Visiting Weekend. What I love about the Chippy dance program is that it doesn’t matter if you dance at home competitively or reserve your dancing skills for camp only, everybody loves it and gets into it!
Tonight we had a social with Menominee. The boys pulled into Chippewa at about 7pm and the South Field was booming. We of course had the traditional music, popcorn, cookies, juice and FRIED OREOS, but we also had a plethora of awesome games and activities for the Menominee boys and Chippies to participate in. We had life-sized Jenga, tic-tac-toe played with Menominee and Chippewa shirts, we had a photobooth, a frisbee toss competition and an obstacle course. Don’t worry, there were still plenty of Chippies dancing led mostly by Lakeview and some of our senior staff! For those that wanted to do something else though, this was the social for them!
TODAY
Yes of course, it was another incredible day in Chippyland! We had not one, not two but THREE Chippy birthdays! I think it’s safe to say that Zoey S, Rose B and Maisy M had wonderful celebrations. In addition to the birthday wake-up, the lodge was decorated, their cabins had parties and there was lots of cake!
Typically, on the first Sunday of each session, we go into Minocqua for town day. We have switched it up a little this summer so today we had completely normal activities. We always say that it doesn’t matter what day of the week is while you are at camp but I have to admit, it has felt a little weird to have regular activities on a Sunday! That said, it was a perfect day full of fun at activities all over camp. I got to see campers climbing the wall, some flying across the ropes course (harnessed in, of course) and still others were sailing on the new Hobie. I honestly cannot remember a first week of camp in forever that the weather was this conducive to CRC’s amazing activity program!
Tonight we had Barnyard Bedlum! It is the traditional first Tan & White game of each season. Campers dress in crazy costumes and run around the South Field hovering over erasers and singing their designated cheers (assigned per team and age group). The Sachems use these cheers to find their team members and collect the erasers. The team with the most erasers at the end of the game wins. It is quite entertaining and the campers love it! Tonight, the Tans were victorious…the truth though is that the spirit and sportsmanship are what really shined!
Finally, we had our first staff meeting of the summer- always a good time! We relayed pertinent information, ate lots of Doritos and shared our roses of the week. Staff meetings have become increasingly popular in the last couple of years…the staff really enjoy coming together for the betterment of camp.
And that’s the extra special Sari Diaries for 6/25 and 6/26…I hope you enjoyed! Have a good night.
Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
