We are excited to be featuring Melissa Spero in the January Staff Spotlight! Melissa was a first year staff member last summer and after being a camper for six years, she jumped into counselor life seamlessly. She was a fantastic cabin and activity counselor and was an incredibly positive force all around camp. We have loved having Melissa at camp as both a camper and staff member- her smile and happiness are contagious and her love for camp is obvious each and every day! Read below to learn all about Melissa’s Chippy experience…
How many summers have you been at camp?
Last summer was my 7th summer at camp and this will be my 8th!
What cabin were you in during the summer of 2015?
I was in Bowed Legs.
What is your favorite part about being a counselor at CRC?
My favorite part of being a counselor is getting to become friends with people outside of my age group. I also love making my campers summers special just like my counselors did for me.
What was your favorite memory from the summer of 2015?
My favorite memory from 2015 has to be when two of my campers dressed up for a rainy day activity. They each had one half of the onesie for their feet and then had to walk up the hill from Bowed Legs to the theater like that. It was one of the funniest things that happened all summer.
What is your favorite camp memory of all time?
My favorite memory of all time was when my friend Sophie was giving me a piggy back ride and I flipped over her back. I followed her and my other friend Lillie out of the cabin without shoes on after it rained so they took turns carrying me. Sophie paused to take a break and put her back down flat and before I knew it I fell over Sophie’s head and onto my back. We couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the day.
What are you most looking forward to in the summer of 2016?
For the summer of 2016 I am most looking forward to being with all of my friends and campers at the one place we all love.
How do you stay in touch with your camp friends during the year?
During the school year I try to see my friends as much as I can. I also have two huge group texts, one with my campers and cos and one with my age group. I don’t think there’s a day that goes by where I don’t talk to at least one camp person.
What do you do when you are not at camp?
When I’m not at camp you can either find me at cheer practice or dance.
Anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
I can’t wait to see what Summer 2016 brings and I can’t wait to be back at camp with everyone!
