This month, we are featuring Lucy Hoffman in our Staff Spotlight. Lucy was our Wrangler Village Director last summer and did a fantastic job! Throughout her years at CRC, Lucy has proven to be incredibly kind, spirited and a truly good person. Naturally, she is adored by her campers and the entire camp community! Lucy is the kind of staff member we hope all of our campers aspire to be like and we love that she has continued to return to Chippewa summer after summer. Read below to find out all about Lucy!
How many summers have you been at camp?
I’ve been at camp for 11 summers.
What cabin were you in during the summer of 2015?
I was in Trailriders the summer of 2015.
What is your favorite part about being a counselor at CRC?
My favorite part about being a counselor is my campers :) They make my job so easy and I love spending time with them and watching them succeed. I also love being a ski boat driver. Can’t complain about being on the lake all day.
What is your favorite camp memory?
My favorite all time camp memory actually occurred in the summer of 2015. One day not long after parents weekend, there were some leftover ribs given to one of my friends. So one night after a full dinner, we sat on the dock and each ate about a full slab of ribs as we watched the sunset… I honestly don’t know if we had ever been so happy. Chippy dogs for life man… (Not sure if there is a more glamorous way to say this but we then proceeded to wrap the ribs back in the tin foil and offer the “leftovers” to someone who only opened them to find gnawed on bones. It was hysterical).
What are you most looking forward to in the summer of 2016?
I have had the same age group of campers for the past 4 years and it is finally their last summer as campers and I’m so excited to see and help them out with Chippy Awards and Fourth of July (they are already thinking of themes, so much dedication).
How do you stay in touch with your camp friends during the year?
I am constantly texting them all and am already in the process of making plans to visit them during my breaks. It does make it easier though that 4 girls in my age group are in Madison with me :).
What do you do when you are not at camp?
When I am not in the the North Woods of Wisconsin, I am in Madison, Wisconsin! I go to the University of Wisconsin and where I am involved in academics, my sorority, and intramural sports. Between all that, I am counting down the days till I’m back at camp :).
Anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
You’re never too cool for camp. It’s fact.
