The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 7/15/15

Wednesday, July 15 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It almost feels like I am bragging at this point, but today has been another magnificent day! From wake-up at 8:30am all the way to the staff party in the office at 11:59pm, #TheRanch2015 was simply the best. Below are the details of the day…

  1. This morning we had B Day activities and ran first and second periods. A good time was had by all and I know that campers and staff made the most of their final session until the second four weeks begin. At Senior Tennis Team, the competition was fierce as we ended with a massive game of Queen of the Court.

  1. Egg Marathon is the traditional conclusion to the first session of Tan & White. It is an all camp relay in which each participant must wear a backpack with an egg in it. Every single member of both teams participates in the relay and activities range from running to kayaking and from archery to baggo. There is really something for everybody in Egg Marathon and spirits were high from the start. In the lodge at lunch, each team cheered their hearts out and the songs could be heard all across the lake. The race was close pretty much the entire time though the Whites maintained a lead until the end. At the last activity before the rope burning, the Tans pulled ahead with some impressive tube-flutter-kicking. As we all moved to behind Blackfoot and Silverspurs to see the Chief and Grand Sachems building a fire, the suspense was crazy. All four sachems did an amazing job, but the Tan egg dropped first as their rope broke. The screams and encouragement from the sidelines was awesome and everyone was proud of their hard work.

  1. As always, the Honor Cabins were announced at the end of the game. Circle C and C-C were the cleanest cabins in 2015 for first session. They were ecstatic to find this out and even happier to head to Cathy’s to celebrate their achievement!

  1. After dinner but before evening program, there was a lot going on. The Purple Team from the Beehive game got to make s’mores at the Center Fire Circle, Boots made ice cream sandwiches for Alexis F’s birthday and Wagon Ridge had a baking party in the house. The cabin bonding at this time of the session is always plentiful and I loved how campers and counselors were so eager to get it in at any time they could!

  1. Screen on the Green is a very popular evening program that is so CUTE. The entire camp heads to the South Field to enjoy a movie (tonight was Scooby Doo) on our gigantic blow-up screen. Some campers bring sleeping bags and blankets while others bring chairs and Crazy Creeks. Regardless of the seating arrangement, campers all cuddle together to enjoy a late night movie under the stars.

  1. The night ended quite late with a surprise food party for the staff. We had all different types of snacks and appetizers for them to indulge in. We sent a mass text to the counselors after all campers were asleep letting them know that we had a treat for them in the office. It wasn’t a total shock but cabin counselors rotated up here to eat some great food and hang out in the coolest place at CRC (obviously, the Office at the Top of the Hill ;)). After an incredible session, we are thrilled to thank our staff in any way possible…the work they have put in and the commitment they have shown is beyond words and if a little food helps demonstrate our appreciation, then we want to give it!

And that’s about all from Chippyland today. It is unbelievable that tomorrow is our Four-Week Banquet. Time has just flown by! Okay, thanks for reading…have a great night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
