Alumni Spotlight- May 2015

The May Alumni Spotlight features Amy Kaelter Gale. Amy was at camp for ten summers and is definitely a die-hard Chippy. She was a member of the greatest age group in Chippewa history (though the author of this paragraph might be slightly biased). Amy was a camper coming from Kansas City, and she was adored by her cabinmates, counselors and eventually her campers. She was a climbing wall instructor as well as the Program Director and it should be noted that Amy brought Murder Mystery to Chippewa as an evening program. Amy is currently on the board of Camp for All Kids and recently co-chaired the Cocktails Around the Campfire event. Overall, she is amazing, and an alum we are very proud of! What years were you at CRC?
1991, 1994-1995, 1997-2003 :)

Which summer was your favorite and why?
1998 because our cabin was one cohesive unit from the start, and we had the chance to plan events to help shape the summer for all the other Chippies.

What is your favorite camp memory?
So many, but the first ones that come to mind are all just regular nights in the cabin, staying up way too late talking and being silly… oh, and Thomas C bringing us Hershey bars in the middle of a terrible storm when we were in Trailriders.

What was your favorite activity at camp?
Daytime activity: climbing wall; Evening activity: Capture the Flag or Tom Pease

How do you keep in touch with your camp friends?
Texts, emails, phone calls…and regular camp dinners (when I still lived in Chicago) or when I’m visiting now.

Where do you live now?
Kansas City

What do you do?
I’m a program officer on the education team at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Basically, I work to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for Kansas City students.

What do you miss most about camp?
Living with 15+ close friends and getting to be outside and run around to different activities all day. Every day was different than the last, and life was always full of excitement.

Is there anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
If you are a camper or staff member, enjoy every minute of camp. Know that you are so lucky to be able to have this experience and that time will go by so fast…but that Chippewa will always be a part of who you are.
