The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 8/6/14

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It is hard to believe that this is the second to last night of camp…where has the time gone? Today’s events were fun, exciting and quite memorable for all campers and counselors. Here are the highlights…

1. When I woke up this morning at 7am to run with a couple of JCs, camp was already in action. We had zeroith (before breakfast) pottery, skiing and ropes, and campers were thrilled to have their last chances to participate in these activities. After breakfast, we also ran first and second period, which were awesome. While campers always love their activities, as the end nears, they are extra enthusiastic to climb one more time, catch that extra fish and jump on the blob one last time.

2. This afternoon was Pony Express, which is our final Tan and White game of the camping season. It is an all-camp relay that begins at the ski shed (used to be the OD Shack) and ends with the Grand and Chief Sachems canoeing to “Watermelon Island.” In between, there are tons of events, and each camper participates in at least one. Some of the highlights included pie eating, fire building and Raisin Bran sorting. As I watched some of the Colt Villagers compete in the flutter kick relay, I heard Riley A say, “Just kick your heart out guys!” It was so sweet :). In the end, the Tans won this incredibly close race.

3. When Pony Express ended, the Village Directors announced the second session Honor Cabins. Circle C was the cleanest cabin in Colt Village and C-C was the Wrangler Village winner. Both cabins were excited and screamed their cabin songs in celebration. Last, but not least, the Neutrals stood in front of the camp as both the Tans and Whites connected pinkies. This summer, the scores were insanely close. The Tans won the summer by 49 points. We are proud of both the Tans and Whites this summer, and appreciate all of the hard work the Neutrals put in.

4. As is tradition around here, this evening was Request Night. This program has a number of components, beginning with campers and counselors requesting others to perform on stage. They chose well- Shana Laski played “I’m Yours” on the ukulele, Grace F and Sammie T sang, the “Frozen” cast performed “He’s a Bit of a Fixer Upper,” and the hip hop advanced dance showed their moves. From there, Cliff and Lisa sang a song poking a bit of fun at the staff. After that, we sang “I Was Here In…” and “No More Saddles.” The Ten Year Girls gave a farewell speech from the staff and Chloe S & Elyssa F gave one from the campers. Both the camper and staff farewells were really nice! Finally, we watched a highlight reel of the summer to a soundtrack that has been around for a very long time and reminds us all of this tearful night.

I think by now it has officially hit us all that in just over twenty four hours, the 2014 Chippewa chapter will be coming to a close. As I think about our final hours at #CRC2014, I cannot help but feel so lucky to have been surrounded by the most incredible group of people this summer. This entire crew- young to old- has created an environment of acceptance, safety, fun and growth. I probably sound like a broken record by now, but we are all so fortunate to have spent the summer together. Okay, that’s all- thanks for reading!
