The Sari Diaries- Friday 8/1/14

Thursday, July 31 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

I am sad to say that the last Friday of camp has come and gone, but I am happy to say that it was an incredible day. The Chippewa Regatta day is always one of the best of the summer in my personal opinion, and I think there are many campers, staff and alumni who agree. Here are today’s details…

  1. Kawaga, Timberlane and Menominee all came this morning to prepare for the sailing race. Our sailing team and staff helped get boats in the water, play some volleyball with the other camps and dance to the tunes that were blasting from the waterfront. The entire regatta crew had an early BBQ lunch and then headed out onto the water. The Chippies were paired with boys from other camps to sail with and the CITs sailed on the Hobey together (tradition which began in 2003). Lakeview camper, Rachel R, won with her Kawaga partner. There were many fun awards given out and all participants had a blast!

  2. Throughout the morning and afternoon, regular activities were happening all over camp. Senior Tennis team prepared for tomorrow’s Red Pine competition, skiers got up for the first time, climbers got to the top before zipping and Chippy Anglers caught many fish. It is bittersweet, but campers are really trying to get every minute they can in of activities, and staff are giving every ounce they can to make that happen :).

  1. We had a lot of wonderful alumni visitors around camp today. Ashley Ackerman, Val Agnew, Shana Goldberg, Jen Polan, Emily Shulman and a couple of other fun Chippies played around camp all day. They hung on the waterfront for the majority of the day, but also climbed the wall, tried the ropes course, watched the “Frozen” rehearsal, and just generally enjoyed all that camp has to offer. Campers always love talking with alumni, but this group is extra special because every one of them was at camp with current campers. There were lots of, “Do you remember me” going around, and it was very cute.

  1. Tonight’s Friday Night Campfire had an awesome theme- I Am What I Am. It was led by Ari K. who did a fantastic job speaking in front of the entire camp. The Chippy Choir performed a couple of awesome songs and the entire camp sang along. This evening’s theme was very appropriate for Chippyland. We want all of our campers and staff to feel that they are perfect just as they are, and we hope that they embrace and appreciate each other for their individuality. Chippewa is an incredibly accepting environment, and we hope that we can help to spread this feeling!

So that’s the excitement from #CRC2014. Tomorrow should be an awesome day- don’t forget to check back. Have a good night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
