The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 7/9/14

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

Sadly, it officially feels like first session is coming to an end. While the energy is extremely high, the activities over the last few days let us know that the session is culminating. That being said, the final events of the session have been amazing. Here are today’s highlights…

  1. This morning, after a double points cabin clean-up, we had regular activities. Grace F got up on skis for the first time and many others had great achievements. As always, our staff was incredible all morning. There were a number of activities who had instructors stay on longer than the actual period to ensure that campers got an extra turn before the session ended.

  1. This afternoon was our final Tan and White event- Egg Marathon. This is an all-camp relay which starts at the Top of the Hill and ends with the Grand and Chief Sachems building a fire. In between, there is archery, tennis, climbing, bed making, homerun derby, Lucky-Charm separating along with many many other activities. The competition was intense and the lead changed between the Tans and Whites many times. In the end, the Tan Team’s fire broke the rope first. Both teams displayed an immense amount of passion, spirit and sportsmanship!

  1. After Egg Marathon, first session honor cabins were announced. In the Colt Village, Circle C had the highest average and in Wrangler Village, A-Frame pulled out the victory by .05%. The most exciting prize at camp is always Cathy’s and that is what these cabins received. It was well deserved after a full session of dedication to cleanliness.

  1. Tonight’s evening program was new and it was very well received! Our Unity Club heads (Carly Morgan, Josh Gascoyne and Lauren Reisman) worked hard with Kate Bradley to create a fabulous program called Chippy Challenges. Each cabin chose a theme to dress as and they reported to the South Field hyped to participate. There were fifteen stations where cabins competed against staff members in different activities. These ranged from Jacks to hand-stand contests and from Bingo to trampball. All of the rotations were unique in their own way and of course, we had music to dance to all night long. The whole evening was amazing and campers loved it!

  1. Before bed, as I walked around the camp, lots of good things were happening in the cabins. The Trailriders campers and staff were showing off their dancing skills and I even displayed my Trailriders ’97 dance (not very well). In Blackfoot, I participated in the “goodnight train,” which was soooooo cute. The evening ended in the cabin of Cactus raiding Cliff to get candy. It was fun and they had A LOT of energy!

  2. Last but not least, I want to share a few quotes from the day that made me smile:

During Egg Marathon, I overheard a camper talking to two of her friends who were racing against each other. Her comment was, “You guys are both really really fast.” It was so sweet and honest…she had no interest in saying who was faster, she just wanted to let them both know that she was impressed with their speed.

Also during Egg Marathon, a camper going into eighth grade yelled, “Yeah age group!” as they were participating in the back to back relay. While this might seem like a small comment, I was impressed that she wasn’t cheering for her team specifically, or even her cabinmates, she was just proud that her age group was working hard.

In the office this evening, we had a couple of campers hanging out. When Carly Morgan entered the office, the camper said, “Tonight was awesome- thank you so much for planning it.” While our campers are always surprising me, I was so proud that this camper recognized the effort that was put into this program and she really appreciated it.

As you can tell, this has been a fantastic day at #CRC2014. We have enjoyed a day of excitement, competition and fun, and are looking forward to another awesome day tomorrow. Have a good one…thanks for reading!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
