The Sari Diaries- Tuesday 7/8/14

Monday, July 07 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It has been quite a day at #CRC2014 and we are all ready for bed! Here are today’s highlights…

  1. At the beginning of this summer, our Arts Director, Meredith Epstein, made a comment that she misses the all-camp pictures hanging in the lodge and theater. Because we value our staff’s opinions (and quite frankly, we miss the photos as well) we have decided to bring them back this summer. Brit Black arrived at camp this morning and we all went to the South Field to take the picture. He stood at the top of the climbing wall as we smiled for the camera. We will do this again second session and are thrilled to see the photos!

  1. Our afternoon was quite active! We had Camp Red Pine here for a senior tennis competition. It was nice for the girls to play matches against another camp and we were very excited to win all of them. Winning is always nice, but it was also great to see our team be such good hostesses and sports.

  1. While our tennis competition was going on, the Chippy Anglers (the fishing team) were having a friendly fishing competition with Camp Timberlane. Last summer was our first inter-camp of this kind and it was very popular. The Chippies love to fish and they especially enjoy turning it into a sport against the boys :). The stats of the afternoon were as follows:
Chippies caught the most fish (21)
Chippies caught the biggest fish (9.5 inches by Casey C & Jordan H)
Chippies caught the first fish (congrats to Diana J)
Overall, it was all about the fun, and there was a lot of that going around!

  1. This evening was a huge night for Tan and White. First, we had “T.A.W.L.S”, which stands for Tan and White Lip Sync. Each team was broken up into six groups, each of which vary from the youngest to oldest campers. There are two Chiefs (oldest age group) on each team that have been making up the lip sync over the past couple of days, and tonight, they taught it to their groups. The performances were awesome and it was so fun to see campers of all ages on stage dancing and singing together. While all of the performances were truly impressive, the Whites won this game!

  2. Once camp got dark, we played Stalk the Lantern. This is a major camp favorite and we play it once each session. The staff set chairs up in a bulls-eye formation on the South Field with the neutrals (Jessica, Alexa, Cliff and myself) in the center. In groups, campers hid around the field and tried to sneak up to the center without being caught by the neutrals’ flashlights. For each ring of the bulls-eye that they pass, they earn more points for their team. It is always fun to be in the center and see who can make it all the way to our chairs. At the end of the game, we all met in the messhall where Cliff led an exciting rendition of “points shout-outs.” Campers came to the microphone to let everyone know how many points they scored. There was lots of enthusiasm and cheering throughout this portion of the evening. Campers and staff love this game, and although it makes for quite a late night, this is a worthwhile cause.

That’s about all from Chippyland today. It was quite eventful, and was just another day that we tried to enjoy every single moment we have here. Thanks for reading today’s edition of the Sari Diaries. Have a great night and be sure check back tomorrow!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
