The Sari Diaries- Thursday 7/10/14

Thursday, July 10 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

Another beautiful day in the Northwoods has come and gone, and what a wonderful day it was. Here are the highlights…

  1. We did a Dance Show run-through which was awesome. From start to end, the show has really come together, and we are all excited for the Chippy families to watch it tomorrow night. Dance Show Director, Sami Fabric, has been working tirelessly to perfect each dance and performance. It is a huge task and she has made it look easy! Today at lunch, the whole camp cheered, “We love Sami, yes we do, we love Sami, how ’bout you?” It was started by her cabin and it was so sweet to see the enthusiasm around the room to honor such a terrific staff member.

  1. This evening before dinner, we held the final first session campfire. The final campfire of each session is led by the outgoing Lakeview campers. There are six Lakeview campers that will be departing this weekend, and they each spoke to the camp about their camper years at Chippewa. The speeches were quite emotional and the stories, advice and love that was shared was so cool. Many of them spoke about their memories of being Blackfoot campers and watching the oldest cabin give these same speeches. They advised the campers to take advantage of every moment, to appreciate the little things at camp and to be themselves no matter what because Chippewa is a community that embraces such behavior. I was incredibly touched by the thought the Lakeview campers put into this campfire. I remember them as first year campers and am so proud of who they have become as leaders at CRC.

  1. The evening ended with our First Session Banquet. This is a dinner dedicated to the first session campers who are leaving. Awards are given out and lots of pictures are taken. The food was extra-special tonight…gnocchi, pink sauce, asparagus, garlic bread and brownies baked in pie crust. The two major awards of the night were Ranch Queen and Honor Camper. Ranch Queen went to Lillie Y who has displayed exemplary skill, leadership and dedication at the stables. The 2014 first session Honor Camper was Carly H. Carly is an amazing camper who has embodied the Chippewa Creed each day at camp and is constantly putting others before herself. We were excited to be able to honor these two very deserving campers!

Those are today’s events…it was truly a lovely day at #CRC2014. As the first session comes to a close, I am taking a step back and seeing such amazing bonds that have been formed over the past four weeks. There are so many campers who came as strangers, grew into friends and are now leaving as sisters. The special friendships that are formed through a summer at Chippewa are the best kind of friendships.

We are looking forward to making the most of tomorrow and are eager to see all of the families tomorrow night! Thanks for reading…see many of you soon :).

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
