The Sari Diaries- Friday 6/13/14

Friday, June 13 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

This has been a nice day in the Northwoods. Here’s what happened…

  1. This morning, during breakfast, we had about 30 staff members who baked muffins in orange peels over the campfire. Kate Bradley (Program Director) and Taylor Douglas (Trip Leader) went to a session on baking over the fire at the Midstates Camp Conference this Spring and we are thrilled that they brought it back to Chippyland. To quote Sydney Perloe, “This is the cutest thing Chippewa has ever done.” It was very cool to have our staff get excited and many of them were discussing how they could do this with their campers.

  2. Today’s focus for our sessions was on Health, Safety and Risk Management. The day was full of meetings that prepared our staff for many different situations in working with campers. Our goal is to train this group to a very high level so that they are ready to be proactive throughout the summer and are able to maintain an environment which is safe and healthy for the entire camp.

  3. This evening, our riding instructor trainer, Casey, arrived. She is a CHA instructor and began her program with our riding instructors, who are all excited to work with her throughout the weekend. Our riding program is a long-standing Chippewa tradition that we value greatly. We love that each year, we re-evaluate the program to provide our campers with a fun, safe and purposeful activity.

  4. Dinner was amazing! It was our first Friday Night dinner of brisket, kugel and latkes. The staff loved it, and of course, Jen’s cupcakes were a hit!

  1. This wonderful day was capped off with an excellent evening program… Bowling at Eagle Lanes! The entire staff enjoyed an evening of bowling, pool, darts and pizza. Yes- we do find a way to eat everywhere we go!

I think those are today’s highlights- I hope you enjoyed!

Tomorrow, a couple of our JCs will be taking the ACT in Minocqua and then we will direct our attention to the final details of preparing cabins and activity areas for #CRC2014. Thanks for reading… have a wonderful night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
