TESTING PROTOCOLS

We have partnered with The University of Illinois and their Shield Testing program. This is a saliva test and it will be administered by trained Chippewa staff members ONE DAY prior to the start of camp. This specific test will offer us an incredibly high accuracy rate, and the timing will provide us with the most relevant possible results. Testing will be staggered and families will be asked to arrive at specific times as outlined below.

ALL campers will need to take this test at the Northbrook Court shopping center one day prior to the start of camp (June 20th for eight week and first session campers/ July 17th for second session campers). Tests will be repeated on day three and day six of camp. Following the day six test we should be in a position to relax our podding and masking protocols as we should have a COVID-19 free bubble.

Vaccinated Campers- We are asking that vaccinated campers also test one day prior to the start of camp for the following reasons:

  1. Many campers will be in the process of becoming fully vaccinated in the days leading up to camp, and during that time they could become infected and unknowingly introduce the virus into camp. Therefore this test also applies to vaccinated campers.
  2. However unlikely, there is a chance that a child’s vaccine didn’t “take.” Therefore she could become infected and this test will help to identify that.
  3. The CDC maintains that there is still a risk of breakthrough cases in which a vaccinated person contracts the virus.
  4. Chippewa is a congregate living setting. Because of this, while it is important that we follow the science, we also need to take extra precautions in order to protect our community.

Previously Infected Campers- Per the advice of our pediatric medical directors, if your daughter tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days, she WILL NOT need to take our gateway test and will not need to show up at the Northbrook Court parking lot the day prior to the start of camp. If this applies to your child, please contact camp as soon as possible. We will need proof of her positive test result as well as a written confirmation from a doctor.

WE ARE CONTINUING TO FOLLOW THE SCIENCE AND CHANGES ARE POSSIBLE. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR POTENTIAL UPDATES

Check In- Families should arrive at the Northbrook Court mall parking lot (1515 Lake Cook Road, Northbrook, IL) at their designated time, and proceed to the Neiman Marcus area. Staff in GREEN shirts will guide your vehicle to the testing line.

PLEASE DO NOT EXIT YOUR VEHICLE

As of now the plan will be to roll down your daughter’s window and a test kit will be given to her. Our staff will guide her through the process, and once completed you will be guided to the exit. We should have the results that evening.

YOU WILL ONLY HEAR FROM US IF YOUR CHILD TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Please arrive at the appropriate testing time as outlined below. We feel that these times are realistic, but we have never completed an operation of this nature before, so please allow for extra time on the back end of your testing window. Times are alphabetical based on last name:
